After many, many months of preparation, a brand new website has been launched for Jesse L. Martin. The site can be found at jesselmartin.com. As a result, this site will gradually become inactive and eventually deleted.
Why the change? It's pretty straight forward: Hosting your site gives you more flexibility and control, in addition to being far more professional. What makes this site different? Aside from the custom domain and self hosting, there are some new features already here with more on the way. What's New?
Unfortunately, the site still isn't finished. Despite being published and launched, there is still a long ways to go before the site will be complete. It will be a work in progress for months to come. Updates will be posted here, along with on Facebook and in the newsletters. But here are something things you can look forward to in the (hopefully) near future. What's Coming?
What's going to happen to this site? For now it will remain published, but sooner or later it will be removed in its near entirety. Access to individual pages will be removed as they are created on the new website. For instance, the photo gallery for The Flash (2014) has been removed from the old site because there is a new one on this website. The same goes for the trivia and quotes pages, among others. The WordPress site which was the original site will most likely be shutdown in the near future since it has been inactive for over a year. Have feedback? If you have encountered any problems with the new website or if you have any comments, please feel free to send an email to [email protected]. Your feedback is much appreciated! Some kinks are in the process of being worked out, but there's always a chance you may have found one that we didn't know about, therefore, please send an email and we'll try to fix it right away. Thank you and enjoy! Jesse L. Martin to host "Party with a Purpose" for The Gathering of Justice and their launch of Justice League NYC on April 10th, 2014. He'll play Detective West, a surrogate father to Grant Gustin's Barry Allen in the Arrow spin-off pilot from Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg and Geoff Johns.
Martin -- who played Det. Ed Green for nearly 200 episodes on the Dick Wolf procedural -- will portray Det. West, an honest, blue-collar cop who is a surrogate father to Barry. A soulful, funny and caring father to Iris -- Barry's potential love interest -- West came up through the foster care system and took Barry in after his mother's slaying and father's imprisonment. He believes in Barry and supports his efforts to prove his father's innocence. The Flash project, from Warner Bros. Television, started as a backdoor pilot, with the third episode slated to air in the back half of Arrow's second season. The CW now will film Flash as a standalone pilot in a bid to launch "with a bang like we launched Arrow," CW president Mark Pedowitz told reporters last week. New York Live Arts, the performance group based in Chelsea, describes its specialty as “movement-based artistry.” Given the group’s history — it was founded after a merger between the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company and Dance Theater Workshop, and Mr. Jones is its executive artistic director — “movement-based artistry” is usually taken to mean dance. But last year, Live Arts expanded into multidisciplinary performance with its first Live Ideas Festival, built around the work of Dr. Oliver Sacks, the neurologist and author. The organization continues its outward push with this year’s installment of the festival, “James Baldwin, This Time!” The program, which was announced on Wednesday, will run at Live Arts (219 West 19th Street) from April 23 to 27. The festival, meant to commemorate the 90th anniversary of Baldwin’s birth, will explore the author, playwright and social critic’s writings on race, class and sexuality — as well as his stature as an America artist — through theater works, choreography, music and visual installations. Among the visual work are Hank Willis Thomas’s video project, which includes readings of some of Baldwin’s works and an exhibition of Richard Avedon’s portraits of Baldwin, taken over the course of their 40-year friendship. That friendship will also be explored in a reading by Rachel Cohen from her book “A Chance Meeting,” and in “Nothing Personal,” a theater piece based on the 1964 Baldwin-Avedon book, starring Colman Domingo. Also scheduled are Carl Hancock Rux’s “Stranger on Earth,” a theatrical imagining of a meeting between Baldwin and the jazz singer Dinah Washington; “Stew on Baldwin: An Intimate Look,” which includes musical settings of Baldwin’s writings; and “Baldwin Through Dance,” in which Charles O. Anderson and Dianne McIntyre will present the premieres of works inspired by Baldwin. The festival prospectus also includes lectures, panel discussions and readings, including “Jimmy at High Noon,” a series of daily readings from Baldwin’s work. Among the readers: the poets Nikky Finney and Yusef Komunyakaa; the musicians Vijay Iyer and Jason Moran; and the actors Jesse L. Martin and André De Shields. “James Baldwin is a unique and indispensable voice in 20th-century art and ideas,” Mr. Jones said in a statement. “He continues to shed light on the painful truths of our society, engaging us as almost no other figure does in the intractable conversation at the intersection of class, race, sex and violence. There were other powerful artists and social justice thinkers in his era, but what set James Baldwin apart was his ability to address, in terms at once poetic and visceral, what we can only call ‘Americanism.’” Tickets for the events range from free to $60, and the festival is offering full festival passes for $175. According to IMDB.com, Jesse L. Martin has joined a film titled Nebraska Horizon (2014) that is currently in pre-production. Others starring in the movie include Kevin Corrigan, Yul Vazquez, Zachary Booth and more.
